Bajaj Finserv announced on Wednesday that its joint venture partner, Allianz, has expressed interest in exiting their life and general insurance partnerships under Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance. According to Bajaj Finserv’s statement to the exchanges, Allianz has conveyed that, based on its strategic goals, it is exploring the possibility of withdrawing from both joint ventures.

The company clarified that discussions are still in the early stages and no formal proposal has been presented to the board of Bajaj Finserv or its insurance subsidiaries at this point.

Allianz has assured Bajaj that if an exit were to occur, it would fully support a seamless transition to the Bajaj brand, ensuring minimal disruption for policyholders, business partners, employees, and other stakeholders involved in the insurance companies.

Despite signaling its potential departure from these ventures, Allianz remains committed to the Indian insurance market but has declined to speculate on future alternatives. Allianz currently holds a 26% stake in both insurance arms, with Bajaj Finserv holding the remaining 74%.

Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance is a leading player in the life insurance industry in India, while Bajaj Allianz General Insurance ranks as the second-largest private general insurer in the country. According to a Bloomberg report, Allianz is planning its exit partly due to disagreements over a discounted stake increase and strategic decision-making issues, according to anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
